Project Overview:
The Stammen family wanted to expand their 1½ story house and cramped kitchen, but they were concerned about destroying the charm of their vintage home. Potter’s solution was to create a two-story addition on the back of the house.
First, the kitchen walls were torn out. The next step was to build up two stories and back in towards the house. The roof line of the gable was altered to blend the new addition, expand an existing dormer, create headroom for a larger bedroom, and create another bedroom with the addition of a second floor. This also gave the Stammens a huge kitchen with an eating nook, plus a powder room on the main floor, and three airy bedrooms on the upper floor—turning their cute but cramped craftsman into a stunning and spacious home while maintaining its unique character.
